economical ways to replace steam hauled trains by internal combustion railcars, first on narrow gauge lines, later on the standard gauge. It describes in detail the technical and operational history, which was cut short by the outbreak of war, and the subsequent fate of the vehicles.

It is illustrated by a large number of unique photographs, many of them from the personal album of the engineer in charge of the development. This publication features more than 100 unique photographs, over 70 of which have never before been published.
